– A thin filament that is about the size of the treated hair is expertly inserted into the hair follicle.
– The skin is not punctured and the insertion is may be slightly felt.
– The current is applied and the hair releases and slides out of the follicle easily with a tweezer.
– Each hair is treated one at a time so that the germinating cells that cause the hair to grow are destroyed.
– Removing each hair individually seems slow, but the treatment moves along quickly and accurately.
Permanent hair removal is achieved by administrating a series of treatments in a given area. With each treatment the patient will notice that the hair is becoming finer and softer and less hair is present. Each hair in a given area will cease to grow at different intervals. The amount and strength of the hair, previous hair removal methods, heredity, medications the patient is on, and stress are all factors that will influence how many treatments will be necessary to eliminate every hair permanently. Every hair can be eliminated permanently with electrolysis. Our goal is to eventually never have you come back because we did our job so well.

Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water 24 hours before your appointment is essential. Try to avoid alcohol and salty foods during this time. Proper hydration helps the electrolysis process work more effectively by allowing the radio frequency to target the hair growth tissues better. Dehydration might lessen the effectiveness of your treatment.
-
Let Your Hair grow 1-3 millimeters
We need about 1 to 3 millimeters of hair growth to treat the area successfully. Please refrain from shaving, trimming, or using hair removal creams at least 2-3 days before your appointment. And it’s important not to pluck, tweeze, or wax the unwanted hair while undergoing electrolysis. I know this might feel uncomfortable initially, but trust me, it will be okay. A simple test is to see if you can pinch the hair between your thumb and index finger—if you can, it’s long enough.
-
Avoid Caffeine and Sugar
If you’re sensitive to stimulants, consider limiting caffeine and sugar on the day of your session. These can make you feel more sensitive during the treatment. If you love your morning coffee, schedule your appointment for the late afternoon so the caffeine has time to wear off. This is entirely up to you if you don’t usually feel extra sensitive.
-
Pause Harsh Skin Treatments
Stop using strong topical skin products like retinoids, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid peels at least 2-3 days before your appointment. Your goal is to avoid dry or irritated skin during the treatment. Light exfoliation is okay, and gently using a washcloth or a mild scrub within 24 hours of your appointment can help open up your pores.
Avoid Sun Exposure
Stay out of the direct sun in the days surrounding your appointment. Sun exposure may irritate your skin and dilate blood vessels, which isn’t ideal for the treatment. After electrolysis, your skin may also be more sensitive to sunlight. Wear a hat and apply 30+ sunscreen containing Zinc Oxide.
-
Come Fresh and Clean
Shower on the day of your appointment to clean and hydrate skin. Avoid makeup and/or deodorant in the areas to be treated. If I need to clean the area before the treatment, this takes precious time out of your treatment. Use only a light moisturizer. After the appointment, avoid makeup or deodorant for a few hours.
-
Skip Exercise and Swimming for Now
You have a good reason to take it easy! Try to avoid activities that make you sweat heavily after your appointment for 24 hours. Excessive sweating or swimming can introduce bacteria into the hair follicles we’ve treated, which might cause minor infections or breakouts. Once your skin has had some time to recover, you can get back to your regular activities the next day.
Additional Tips
- Managing Sensitivity: If you’re concerned about discomfort, apply an over-the-counter Lidocaine cream 1 hour before your appointment. Rub it in and then add a thin layer and plastic wrap. Consult your doctor on the use and only cover less than 5 square inches of skin. We can also use ice during the appointment.
When to Reschedule
